BARCELONA, BELLA!

One of St. Louis’s most popular destinations is Barcelona, a charming, intimate Tapas restaurant in downtown Clayton. While everything I’ve ever ordered there has been satisfying, there are two star dishes in particular that must not be missed. First: the Goat Cheese, delivered in a ball floating in red marinara sauce inside a hot pan fresh from the oven. A basket of warm, crisp garlic bread accompanies. Not making a mess of yourself while dipping the bread into the mixture proves quite a challenge, but who cares? It’s that delicious. The tomato sauce is rich and slightly creamy, and partnered with the thick garlic bread for a cracking burst of flavor proves nothing short of foodie heaven.
Next: Bread Pudding. Before you start wondering how a Spanish Tapas restaurant can pull off a good English Bread Pudding, rest assured their take on this classic is a drooler. A mound of warm bread, soft and fluffy, arrives at the table swimming in a sea of uber-rich hot caramel sauce. With your spoon dipping gleefully into the bread soaking in the honey-colored sauce, you may find yourself fighting off your dining companions over who gets to lick the bowl clean.
If, heaven forbid, your meal at Barcelona should happen to be your last, rest assured you will leave this world truly – and happily – satisfied. Scrumptiousness is personified right here. The moral of this story? If you are ever in St. Louis, head directly to Barcelona. Your taste buds, and your dinner guests, will thank you.
